The following post is in German – an English translation is below: Die G2-Staaten haben deas Financial Stability Board (FSB) beauftragt, ein globales LEI-System (Legal Entity Identifier) aufzubauen. Eine solche LEI soll es für jedes am Finanzmarkt operierende Unternehmen geben. WM Datenservice wurde als Vergabestelle für den LEI durch die BaFin und das FSB autorisiert (vorläufig GEI – German Entity Identifier). WM Datenservice wird ab dem 3. April 2013 ein Webportal (www.geiportal.de) mit einem Registrierungs-Service dazu anbieten. Damit können für einzelne rechtliche Einheiten GEIs beantragt werden. WM Datenservice agiert als sogenannte Pre-LOU (Local Operating Unit) . Der Aufbau der 20-stelligen GEI folgt folgendem Muster:

• Stellen 1-4: LOU-Kennung (5299 für WM Datenservice)
• Stellen 5-6: zwei reservierte Stellen (00)
• Stellen 7-18: 12- stellige alphanumerische Kennung
• Stellen 19-20: berechnete Prüfziffer

Kosten:

• Erstregistrierung (Gültigkeit für 1 Jahr): 150 EUR
• Verlängerung einer bestehenden GEI (für 1 Jahr): 100 EUR

The LEI is to be issued to any participant actively engaged in the financial markets. WM Datenservice was authorised by BaFin and FSB as the local operating unit (LOU) to issue said LEI (here called the GEI = German Entity Identifier). WM Datenservice will offer the registration of GEI's from April 3rd, 2013 onwards on their web portal (www.geiportal.de). This allows for the registration of any independent legal entity. WM Datenservice acts as a so-called pre-LOU. The setup of the LOU is structured as follows:

• Digits 1-4: LOU identifier (5299 for WM Datenservice)
• Digits 5-6: two reserved digits (00)
• Digits 7-18: 12-digit alphanumeric identifier
• Digits 19-20: calculated check digit

Cost of registration:

• First registration (valid for 1 year): 150 EUR
• Prolongation of an existing GEI (for 1 year): 100 EUR
