New iPhoto Journal – present your photos

Since the demise of MobileMe, one thing I miss is the Gallery feature. I’ve used Flickr and 500px but they are either fussy to use, or not easy to organise into public and private galleries. With the launch this week of iPhoto for iPad / iPhone, a new approach to sharing photos has come about, the Journal. You can take a look at my first effort here, the idea being you can layout your photos across the grid and choose the size of each. You can also add captions, notes, maps, calendars and weather, the later of which customise themselves to your photos, e.g. the calendar widget will show the date the photos were taken by looking at the EXIF data inside your shots.  Overall the feature is very nice, there’s some style options and the ability to share Journals at your own control. Now all I need is an iPad 3 to make things easier, creating a Journal on an iPhone is a little cramped.

The rest of iPhoto for iOS looked really cool – some nice tools for adjustments, auto-detecting the horizon, white balance using skin tones, and a flip out palette of effects such as black and white, with various sub-flavours.  Now what I want is for Aperture to be upgraded to generate Journals, and also do lens correction.
